FAQ’s

  1. Is the awning 100% waterproof?

These awnings are primarily designed for shade.  The fabric is water resistant and will handle a light , gentle rain with the pitch provided from the factory.  A heavy rain can cause the fabric to pocket and hold water.  This along with wind can damage a retractable awning.  

2.  Can I leave my awning open all the time?

It is suggested to close your awning when not in use or before a strong storm comes.  The wind sensor is an extremely useful tool to protect your awning from damage.

3.  Which retractable awning do I need?

That can be determined by one of our sales associates.  They will come out and look at where you are planning on having the awning installed and how you are going to use it.

4.  How effective is the shade an awning provides?

It will significantly drop the temperature on your deck or patio, up to 20 degrees.  It will block as much as 99% of the UV rays from the sun.  This will help protect your deck and furnishings from fading.

5.  Will an awning help me with utility bills?

Retractable awnings help drop your cooling costs in the warm months and allow the winter sun in your home to help heat.

6.  What colors and fabrics are available for the retractable awning?

SunSetter offers 12  laminate fabrics and  30 acrylic fabrics available through an authorized Sunsetter dealer.  These fabrics have a 5 year warranty.  The laminate is 100% waterproof, mildew and flame resistant.  The woven acrylic fabric is water repellant and fade resistant.

Bel Aire offers over 200 colors of acrylic marine grade fabric from Sunbrella that have a ten year manufacturer warranty.

7.  How will it be attached to my house?

There are several different mounting methods depending on the location and material the awning will be attached to.  Wall, soffit, and roof mounts are all examples of the different mounting brackets used and the salesperson can determine where the awning should be placed.

 

8.  What is the hand-crank for?

The hand crank is the used to extend and retract non-motorized units and motorized units, if there is a loss of power.  Also, it is used to operate the drop screen on upgraded models that have that feature.
